Abstract

Congestive Heart Failure (CHF) is a cardiovascular disease with high prevalence and significant morbidity and mortality rates. Rational pharmacotherapy management is crucial to reducing hospitalization rates and improving patient quality of life. This study aims to evaluate medication use among hospitalized CHF patients using the parameters of correct diagnosis, correct indication, correct medication, and correct dosage. This study design is descriptive, observational, with a retrospective approach, using medical records of CHF patients treated at Dr. Soeselo Regional Hospital, Tegal Regency, during July–December 2024. A sample of 79 patients was analyzed. The results showed that the most commonly used drug classes were loop diuretics (furosemide), beta-blockers (bisoprolol, carvedilol), aldosterone antagonists (spironolactone), ARBs (candesartan), and ACE-I (ramipril, captopril). The majority of patients received therapy at doses consistent with standard CHF therapy, and the longest hospitalization was 7 days. The evaluation showed that all patients received therapy that met the four indicators of rational drug use (100% correct diagnosis, indication, drug, and correct dosage). Based on the study results, it can be concluded that the use of CHF drugs in hospitalized patients at Dr. Soeselo Regional Hospital has been implemented rationally and in accordance with national and international therapy guidelines.
