Plagiarism Screening and Originality Policy
MATRIK: Jurnal Manajemen, Teknik Informatika, dan Rekayasa Komputer is committed to maintaining the highest standards of publication ethics and academic integrity. The journal does not tolerate plagiarism, data fabrication, data falsification, duplicate publication, or other forms of research misconduct.
MATRIK follows the ethical principles and recommendations of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) in handling cases of plagiarism and publication misconduct.
Definition of Plagiarism
Plagiarism is the use of another person's ideas, words, data, figures, tables, or intellectual work without proper acknowledgment or attribution. Plagiarism includes, but is not limited to:
-
Direct copying of text without appropriate citation;
-
Paraphrasing another author's work without proper acknowledgment;
-
Self-plagiarism or redundant publication;
-
Duplicate submission or duplicate publication;
-
Misappropriation of data, figures, tables, or research findings;
-
Any other form of presenting another person's work as one's own.
Similarity Screening
All submitted manuscripts undergo similarity screening using Crossref Similarity Check powered by iThenticate before entering the peer-review process.
The editorial office evaluates the similarity report carefully and does not rely solely on the overall similarity percentage. Similarity may originate from legitimate sources such as references, standard methodological descriptions, properly quoted text, or commonly used terminology.
As a general guideline, manuscripts with a similarity index exceeding 25% may be returned to the authors for revision or rejected at the discretion of the editors, depending on the nature and extent of the overlap identified.
The editorial team assesses each case individually to determine whether the overlap constitutes acceptable similarity or potential plagiarism.
Editorial Actions
When substantial overlap or suspected plagiarism is identified before publication, the editorial office may:
-
Request clarification from the authors;
-
Require revision and resubmission of the manuscript;
-
Reject the manuscript if plagiarism or unethical overlap is confirmed.
The final decision rests with the Editor-in-Chief based on the evidence obtained during the editorial assessment.
Originality Requirements
By submitting a manuscript to MATRIK, authors confirm that:
-
The manuscript is an original work;
-
The manuscript has not been published previously, except in permissible forms such as abstracts, theses, or conference presentations with appropriate disclosure;
-
The manuscript is not under consideration by another journal simultaneously;
-
All data, results, and findings presented are authentic and accurately reported;
-
All sources used in the manuscript have been properly cited;
-
All listed authors have contributed significantly to the work and have approved the submitted version.
Post-Publication Misconduct
If plagiarism, duplicate publication, fabricated data, falsified data, or other forms of publication misconduct are discovered after publication, MATRIK will investigate the matter in accordance with COPE guidelines.
Depending on the severity of the case, the journal may take one or more of the following actions:
-
Publish a correction;
-
Publish an expression of concern;
-
Retract the article;
-
Notify the authors' affiliated institutions or relevant authorities when necessary.
Policy Review
MATRIK regularly reviews and updates its plagiarism screening and publication ethics policies to ensure alignment with international standards of scholarly publishing and best practices in research integrity.
